Carolyn Tate Liggon
Our sweet Mother, Carolyn Tate Liggon, 84, of Danville, VA departed this life on September 24, 2024 for her eternal life in Heaven.
Carolyn was born on July 11, 1940 to the late Early G. Tate and Annie Beatrice Dodson.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Wayne M. Liggon and her sister Barbara Tate Sutton.
She is survived by her brother, Roger Tate, her sister-in-law Marie Rigsby; Daughter Renee’ Shumate (Melvin); Daughter Tamara Gill (Eric); and Son Douglas Liggon (Veronica). She is also survived by her five grandchildren; Melissa Floyd (Michael), Peyton Gill (Krista), Katlin Manning (Jonathan), Caleb Gill, and Shawn Liggon. She is also survived by her six great grandchildren; Carter Floyd, Jackson Bridges, Illy Baldino; Declan and Lochlan Gill, and Hope Manning; and one great granddaughter on the way.
She leaves behind her cherished nieces Joann Poteat and Pam Davis and her nephews Lee Rigsby Jr., Tracy Rigsby, Terry Rigsby, Jeffrey Rigsby, Robert Liggon, Steve Sutton, and Rahn Sutton. She also leaves her beloved companion Annie.
Carolyn grew up in the Communities of Laurel Grove and Ringgold, VA. She graduatd from Dan River High School and Roanoke Business College. On December 2, 1962, she married the love of her life, Wayne M. Liggon. They were happily married for 59 years until his passing in 2021.
She worked many years as a Medical Secretary and was employed with Danville Pulmonary Clinic until her retirement in 2013.
She attended Woodberry Hills Baptist Church, a place she loved to be and considered everyone in her church to be as much family as her own. She enjoyed music, but especially opera music, and was an avid baseball and basketball fan. But most of all, she loved her family and friends, and never missed an opportunity to tell them so.
A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at 2:00 pm, at Woodberry Hills Baptist Church, 617 Audubon, Danville, VA 24540 with Pastor Richard Motley and Pastor Lee Rigsby officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the residence.
