Casey Marshall Helms
Casey Marshall Helms, age 40, passed away on July 14, 2025. Casey grew up in Christiansburg, Virginia where he attended Christiansburg High School and New River Community College. He lived in Gainesville, FL most recently. Casey was preceded in death by his sister, Lacie Morgan Helms and the love of his life and mother of their daughter, Megan Sheppard, along with his aunt, Teresa Helms, grandfather, Burl F Long and grandparents Rudy & Hilda Helms. He is survived by his precious 10-year-old daughter, Skyler Helms, whom he always said was “the best thing he ever did in his life.” He leaves behind his parents, Mark & Kym Helms, his brother, Jesse Helms, his sister Kelsea Ditzhazy, her husband Austen Ditzhazy and his beloved nephews Jackson & River Ditzhazy. He is also survived by his grandmother Barbara Long, his aunt Karen Keith, and aunt and uncle Penny and Roger White. His cousins, Justin Keith, Bleu Anderson, Parker White, and Hunter Maddy will miss him deeply. Casey was born during a snowstorm, in Salem, VA January 15, 1985. He always loved the snow; snowboarding and snow days where so many friends would come to the house and climb the big hill behind it, to build a bonfire and go sledding. He missed the mountains, when he moved to Florida and always reminisced about the fun times on the lake, at the river and so many other places where his adventures took him. One of his true passions and most notable achievements in life was the launch of his Food Truck, “Toasted by Casey,” where he was able to express his love for cooking, and take pride in his own business, which was one of a kind and a phenomenal success. Casey’s witty, sharp sense humor and his deep love of his family & friends will be missed. He always knew how to make us laugh. He was an incredibly loyal friend and deeply compassionate soul. He was a creative, artistic, and truly a free spirit. The world will forever be changed because he was here and will never be the same, because he left. A private service will be held at the Kanapaha Botanical Gardens in Gainesville, Florida on August 3, 2025. We invite his friends and family outside of Florida to join us for a Celebration of Life ceremony on Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 1:00 pm-3:00 pm.
