Cecil Irvin Smith

Cecil Irvin Smith, 89, of Martinsville, Va., died on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born August 1, 1933, in Franklin County, Va., to the late John S. Smith and Callie Haskins Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Helen Gilley Smith; his two sisters Myrtle Robertson and Ruby Matherly, and his brother Burton Smith.

 

Cecil worked at Martinsville Concrete Products for 26 years before retiring. In his free time, he enjoyed racing, listening to Blue Grass music and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cecil will be greatly missed.

 

Cecil is survived by his sons, J.C. Smith, and Timothy Smith (Julie Turner); grandchildren, Kayla and Jared Smith; and great-grandchildren, Oakley and Dayton Smith. He is also survived by his brother Carroll Smith (Janet), and his sister Emma Jean Grogan (Thomas).

 

A viewing will be held from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Monday, January 16, 2023, at Stone Memorial Christian church. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, with Pastor Tim Woods presiding. Burial will immediately follow in Pleasant Grove Christian Church Cemetery in Martinsville, Va.
