Charles D. Duncan
Charles D. Duncan, aged 82, passed away on Jan. 3rd at his home in Floyd. He was born on Oct. 2nd, 1942 in Montgomery County, Virginia. He attended Christiansburg High School in the late 1950s. When he was younger he enjoyed going on vacations all around the eastern parts of the US, especially the beach. As he got older, he enjoyed just the more simple pleasures of life. Sitting outside on his patio enjoying the evening sunset on the Blue Ridge Parkway was always a favorite pastime. Charles was a Veteran of the United States Navy from 1961-1965. He served his entire enlistment on a Tolland-class attack cargo ship the USS Rankin. He was a boiler technician on this vessel during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Charles worked for many years and eventually retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. Charles will be missed by his surviving family members. His survived by his three son’s Ronald (and Jodi) Duncan, Michael (and Loretta) Duncan, and Charles Duncan Jr. He is also survived by grandchildren, Josiah (and Lauren) Duncan, Jesse Duncan, Jailee Duncan, Maddy Duncan, nieces, nephews, and numerous friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Cora Duncan and his brother Bobbie Duncan. Visitation services will be held on Sunday, Jan 26th from 3-5 pm at McCoy Funeral home in Blacksburg. Burial Services will be at 11 am the next day at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin.
