Charles Edward Pasley

Charles Edward Pasley, 86, died unexpectedly on October 8, 2024, at his residence, Elm Park Estates in Roanoke, Virginia. Charles was born on January 4, 1938, in Boones Mill, Virginia, the son of Charlie and Drusilla (Layman) Pasley.

Charles graduated from Franklin County High School, class of 1956. Following graduation, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Religion from Bridgewater College. He went on to receive a Master of Arts in Linguistics from the University of Chicago and a Master of Arts in Accounting from Roosevelt University in Chicago. Charles passed his CPA exam on the first try!

Charles had a beautiful and far-reaching impact on so many lives with his long teaching career at Callaway Elementary, Ball State University, City Colleges of Chicago, Patrick Henry Community College, Franklin County High School, and substitute teaching at numerous Franklin County Public Schools. In addition to teaching, he worked as a writer for Encyclopedia Brittanica and as an accountant.

Charles’s interests included a deep passion for genealogy, learning languages, reading and listening to audiobooks, music, history, crochet, and British comedies.

He shared his love of learning with everyone who would listen (and even those who would have preferred not to)

Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Angell (Cooper) Pasley; his daughter, Margaret Jaffey, and her husband, Raphael, of Chicago, Illinois; daughter Mary Pasley of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and daughter Laura Blaydes and her husband, John, of Roanoke, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Holly, Chelsea and her husband Emiliano, Olivia, Penelope, Violet, and Lazarus; and three great-grandchildren, Cyan, Rose, and Leonel; as well as brother, Gerald Pasley (Clara Mae), sister Agnes Hodges (Wayne), and sister Nancy Robertson (John) and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service/celebration of life will take place at Flora Funeral Chapel, Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Interment will take place in the Pasley Family Cemetery in Scruggs, Virginia, at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Camp Bethel located in Fincastle, Virginia (www.campbethelvirginia.org/donate), or to a charity of your choice.
