Charles M. Williams

February 22, 1940 - January 26, 2025

Charles M. Williams was born February 22, 1940 to the late Woodrow Harrison Williams and Ruby Suit Williams (Terrell). Charles passed away peacefully at his home, Sunday, January 26, 2025.

Charles graduated from George Washington High School, Danville in 1958 and Mars Hill Junior College in Mars Hill, NC. Charles’ love of music grew under the encouragement of Jane Drake and Marjorie Wall. As a result of their investment in Charles, his adventures in music extended to being pianist and organist at Stokesland Baptist church for over 20 years. He also served in these capacities, including director of music, in other local churches over the years.

Charles discovered his “real” niche in life at F.W. Woolworth in Danville, VA. He realized that retail was where he belonged, and it was his “heartlife” til his death. Out this realization came M&W Flower Shop, Chatham, VA. M&W was actually born in 1970. Charles and his life-partner, Michael Rose have served this area well over the years from M&W. Both served faithfully in different capacities at both Church of the Epiphany as well as Emanual Episcopal Church of Chatham.

Survivors of Charles Williams include his partner, Michael Rose, nephews, James Williams, Michael Williams, and Joseph Williams, as well as many loving cousins.

In addition to his beloved parents, he was also predeceased by his brother, Douglas Wayne Williams.

Charles said himself, “people are my joy, retail is my calling, God is my Director. I thank God daily for permitting me to share His love with as many as possible”

“It is well with my soul”

A Celebration of Life Service honoring Charles and his life will be held at a later date.

Norris Funeral Services, Chatham Chapel is serving the family.
