Charles Robert Van Hook

- November 26, 2022

Charles (Charlie) Robert Van Hook, 80, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 26th, 2022.

Born in Franklin, North Carolina, on July 12th, 1942, Charles spent time in the Army before beginning a 50+ year career in the trucking industry. Even after retirement he couldn't stay away and worked part time until fully retiring in 2016. He made life long friends along the way, and he could fill a book with all the stories from this time in his life.

He was an avid reader of westerns and enjoyed working the puzzle books sent to him by his sister-in-law Barbara. He was a lover of sports, from the Little League World Series, to Duke basketball, to the New York Yankees; and if it was on TV you could bet he was watching. He loved fishing with his brother Blaine and nephew Trevon. He loved spending time with them in Maggie Valley and eating home cooked meals from his sister-in-law Tami, which was something he always looked forward to. But most of all, he loved a good joke, a good weekly conversation with his friends and family, eating a good meal (mostly cooked by Denise and Andrew), and then, resting his eyes.

Charles is survived by his wife of almost 45 years, Mary Adams Van Hook; his two children, Carrie Van Hook and Shane Van Hook, both of Roanoke; along with grandsons, Bryson, Bryndon, and Bronsyn.

He also leaves behind his sisters, Anne Melby of Appleton WI, Joyce Collins (Peter) of Maungatpu Tauranga NZ; brothers, Gene Van Hook (Jeri) of Jennings LA, and Blaine Van Hook (Tami) of Maggie Valley NC; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, Robert D. and Lucille Blaine Van Hook; sister, Janice Van Hook; and nephew, Jonathan Van Hook.

The family will have a Visitation on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 from 6:00 - 8:00pm at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019.

In lieu of flowers the family requests monetary donations to assist with medical and funeral expenses. These can be mailed to: Carrie Van Hook 2732 Brandon Ave SW Apt B3 Roanoke, VA 24015.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Roanoke EMS as well as the staff of Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

To quote one of Charles' favorite songs:

"Go rest high on that mountain, son your work on earth is done, go to heaven a shouting love for the Father and the Son.".
