Charles Roy Heslep Jr. Obituary Charles Roy “C.R” Heslep, Jr., 85, of Roanoke, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on November 7, 2024. Born on October 21, 1939, to the late Charles Roy and Ethel Irene King Heslep, C.R. grew up on the family farm in Christiansburg, before moving to Roanoke. As a longtime member of Salem Church of Christ in Salem, C.R. was instrumental in serving the church with building responsibilities as well as with opportunities for leadership and outreach, including taking communion to the elderly congregants. He retired from Carter Machinery after 35 years of faithful service. A collector of many beautiful and unique clocks from around the world, he was known for repairing, building and restoring antique clocks. C.R. was a member of the American Clock and Watch Museum in Connecticut and was recognized for his talent and skill in clock restoration. He was a giving man who generously gave back to his community by way of charitable organizations, namely, Feeding Southwest Virginia, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospitals, and Boys Town, among others. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Charles Roy Heslep, III; grandsons, Nicholas R. Heslep and Matthew C. Heslep, as well as their mother, Jennifer Lynn Fisher; former wife, Peggy C. Nixon and special caregiving friend, Debbie Schoonover. The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem.
