Charles Wesley Herndon

November 15, 1933 - March 13, 2026

Reverend Charles Wesley Herndon of Danville, Virginia passed from this life on March 13, 2026 and has gone home to be with his Lord and Savior.

Charles was born November 15, 1933 to the late Robert Clifton Herndon, Sr. and Eva Ruth Herndon of Dry Fork, Virginia.

He was married to the late Omie Kendrick Herndon on April 10, 1955 who preceded him in death on July 28, 2024.

Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army as a military officer and was honorably discharged in 1958.

Later in life, Charles answered the call of God to preach the Gospel. He served twenty years as Pastor at Rock Mission Church. He was dedicated to the call of God on his life. His faith was the most important thing in his life. No one knows the many acts of kindness, compassion and love he shared with others except those receiving them and the Lord. He always put others first whether they were best friends or strangers. He loved everyone he was called to pastor and work with. He loved helping hurting people. He was a faithful servant until the end. He was a faithful member of Swansonville Pentecostal Holiness Church.

He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company with 25 years of service and also had 45 years in the realty business.

Charles enjoyed God’s beautiful creation by spending vacation time with family and friends. He visited almost all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Hawaii and the Bahamas. As a veteran, he especially enjoyed visiting Pearl Harbor.

Charles, who was one of 14 children, is the last member of his generation to enter into eternity. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters and their spouse: Robert Herndon, Jr. (Lillie Mae), Joseph Herndon (Viola), Ralph Herndon (Elma), Larry Herndon (Fanny), Ruth Herndon Richardson (William), Naomi Herndon Holley (Morris), Marjorie Herndon Doss (Ray), Iris Herndon Barker, Mabel Herndon Toon (Billy), Viola Herndon Toon (Leon), Audrey Herndon Landrum.

Charles is survived by two sister-in-law’s: Barbara Herndon (Dodd deceased) and Virginia Herndon (Lindy deceased)

He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as numerous great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Ann Stamps, Tara McFarland, Shirley Hayes, Melody Davis and Betty Gunn for being wonderful, compassionate caregivers.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Norris Funeral Home – Mount Herman Chapel, with Reverend Mike Hearp and Pastor David Bell officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior beginning at 11:00 am, at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens, Route 58 West.

The family requests, that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Swansonville Pentecostal Holiness Church, 16300 Mt. Cross Road, Dry Fork, VA 24549
