Charles William Ross
Charles W. Ross, 80, of Fieldale, VA, ascended into the bosom of his Lord and Savior Christ Jesus May 23, 2023.
Born in Norfolk Virginia, Charles was a quintessential Spirit-filled, humble servant-leader, husband, father, family member, and friend who made an impactful difference in the lives and organizations of which he engaged.
His servant-leadership included being an active disciple and Chairman of the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church Deacon’s Ministry for 38 faithful years, former Vice Chairman of the Trustee Board, and Church Administrator. His community and legacy activities included former member of the Board of Directors of the Fayette Area Historical Initiative Museum, Multi-Cultural Center (FAHI) Treasurer, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Phoenix Community Development Corporation, Board of Directors for the Martinsville Henry County Coalition for Health and Wellness, President of the Smith River Missionary Baptist Sunday School Convention, Vice President of the Convention, Board of Directors for the Smith River Missionary Baptist Association, Inc., Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity Martinsville’s Chapter and the Fayette Area Historical Initiative. After more than 38 years of superb leadership roles, Charles retired from E I DuPont Corporation in Martinsville, Va.
He leaves behind survivors to include his wife of 61 years, Sarah M. Ross, daughter, Cindy Ross Keaton, grandchildren, Ross Keaton and Aleah Keaton, sisters, Viness Mae Warren, Sandra L. Clayton, Francis Young (Al), Carolyn Sue Chism, Vanesa Wimbush (Robert), Cynthia Manns, Carla Manns (Lesley), brothers, George Manns (Linda), Bernard Manns (Velma), Nathaniel Manns (Martha), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
A Homegoing celebration will be conducted by Harold Carelock at 12 noon Tuesday at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Gardens, Martinsville, VA.
