Charlotte Lee Sigmon Austin
Charlotte Lee Sigmon Austin, age 78 of Rocky Mount passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, May 16, 2025 at home after a brave six-year battle with ovarian cancer, leaving a void her family cannot fill.
Charlotte was born May 6, 1947 to the late James Norman and Clara Theora Guilliams Sigmon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Rodger Douglas Austin; sister, Gladys Pate and husband Herman; brothers, Marvin “Nig” Sigmon and wife Eva, James “Toby” Sigmon and wife Blanche; infant sister, Eva Marie Sigmon; father and mother-in-law, James Harold and Vennie Austin; along with brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack Walker, Edward “Junior” Montgomery, Denver “Eddie” Peters, Clinton and Jane Austin, Adele Woody, Frances Sledd, Stafford Austin, Irene Austin, James “Shorty” Austin and Drema Austin.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Angie Austin; her pride and joy grandson, Chase Austin; sisters, Doris Montgomery and Ruth Walker; brother, Ronnie Sigmon and wife Rosemary; sisters-in-law, Shirley Franklin and Glenda Peters; and brother-in-law, Larry Austin.
Charlotte was born and raised in Callaway. She worked for Ply Gem for 51 years, where she made many lifelong friends. Charlotte met the love of her life, Rodger. They made their home in Rocky Mount and raised their family. Charlotte was a member of the group that was instrumental in starting Greater Vision Church and was a faithful member until she passed. Charlotte loved spending time with her family and friends, whether that was hanging out at the garage, going out to eat or listening to music at DQ. Charlotte adored Shirley, Glenda and Larry; she thought of them as her own sisters and brother. Charlotte, Shirley and Glenda were three peas in a pod always on the go, shopping, taking fun trips or meeting with friends at Waidsboro Ruritan Club.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to Riverside Oncology and Infusion Center for all the wonderful care and love shown to our mother and family and also to the staff of Carilion Hospice for all of their kindness and care.
Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel, 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2025 with Pastor Steve Tilley officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
