Cheryl Dalton Merricks
Cheryl Dalton Merricks, age 68 of Danville, Virginia passed away Friday, January 9, 2026 at New River Valley Medical Center due to complications from pneumonia and the RSV. Mrs. Merricks was born August 11, 1957 in Danville, Virginia to the late Rachel Lee Wiles Dalton and the late Edgar Royal Dalton. She was married to David R. Merricks on May 22, 1983.
Mrs. Merricks graduated from GW High School in 1975 and was a collection supervisor until her retirement.
Cheryl was a two time kidney transplant recipient, and a past member of the Danville Chapter of the National Kidney Foundation and the Jack W. Hall Memorial Fund, which provided benefits to local dialysis patients. She was a past member of the Piedmont Chapter of the ABWA. She and David enjoyed traveling, being able to visit 39 states, Canada, and Mexico, along with going to NASCAR and NHRA races. She met and made many friends when the were traveling to bowling tournaments and functions around the country, and at car shows and related events. She also enjoyed camping, puzzle making, and the company of the many cats that owned her and David over the years.
In addition to her beloved husband of the residence, she is also survived by her brother, Alan Dalton (Pat); her sister-in-law, Melinda Dalton; nieces, Leslie Adkerson (John), Jamie Arca (JR), and Kristen Harris (Barry); nephew, Patrick Dalton (Courtney); three great nieces; five great nephews; one great-great niece; two great-great nephews; and her special cat, Sophie.
In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her brother, Michael Dalton; and her husband's parents, Frank and Margaret Merricks.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 12, 2026, 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, January 13 at 1:00 at Norris Funeral Service, Mt. Hermon Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Service, Mt. Hermon Chapel, with Pastor Brian Edwards officiating. A private internment will follow at a later time.
The family will receive friends and family at the residence.
