Christine Ferguson Goodbar
Christine Ferguson Goodbar of Penhook passed away at the age of 81 on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.Christine was born in Pittsylvania County on December 22, 1943, to Johnnie and Mary Ferguson. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sister Mabel Payne and brothers Albert Ferguson, Oscar Ferguson, Edward Ferguson, Julian Ferguson, and Bill Ferguson. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Goodbar; her son, J.W. Preston (Becki); daughter, Teresa Preston; granddaughters Jessica Anders and Kasey Preston; great grandchildren Angel Morris (Caleb), Laykin Anders, and Michael Anders; brothers Gene Ferguson (Betty) and Nelson Ferguson (Jacqueline); and numerous nieces and nephews. All will remember her fondly.A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Christine was known for her wit, her warmth, her laugh, and her smile. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and was a familiar face at all their events over the years. Family, friends, and fellow church members knew she could be relied on to bring a delicious dish (or three) to any gathering. She loved to decorate her home and garden, and those who visited her home at Christmas would always find a winter wonderland of Santa Clauses, nativity scenes, and a lavish Christmas village. And she was always looking for new craft ideas and recipes to try. At family gatherings, she was always ready to play a game of Phase 10 or just chat about what everyone in the family was up to.Her family and friends will miss her, but rest in the confidence that she is home with her Lord Jesus and the beloved family members who’ve gone before.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Southern Virginia Child Advocacy Center, 300 S Main Street, Rocky Mount VA 24151. www.southernvacac.orgFuneral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home with Pastor David Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Ferguson Family Cemetery on Smith Mountain Road, Penhook.
