Christopher "Chris" Andrew Cooley

Christopher "Chris" Andrew Cooley, 68, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025. He was born January 30, 1957, in McDowell, West Virginia, to the late Floyd Andrew Cooley and Georgia Bell Eldridge Cooley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Pauline Lowery; and two nephews, Michael Paul Mitchem and James Dean Cooley.

Chris was of the Holiness faith and had a natural talent for singing and playing the guitar, which he had nurtured since he was 15. In his free time, he enjoyed writing his own songs and often found himself singing at funerals, jails, and anywhere he could share his music, which he often wrote himself. He cherished time spent with family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Tammy L. Hairston (Grayson); three grandchildren, Justin Hairston, Jeremiah Hairston, and Julius Hairston; fiancé, Sherri Hagerman; sisters, Bonnie Mitchem (Eddie), Lisa Sowder (Ronnie); brother, Phillip Cooley; and a host of other family members and close friends.

The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor James Nester officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service, starting at 12:00 PM. Following the service, the burial will be at Roselawn Burial Park.
