Christopher Eugene Sheets

November 17, 1958 - January 10, 2025

Christopher Eugene Sheets was born on November 17, 1958, in Moline, Illinois to parents, Curtis Eugene and Frances Armetta Sheets and returned to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on January 10, 2025, after a valiant fight with cancer. Chris and his family relocated to Charleston, WVA. After graduation from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1977, he entered the U.S. Army and served 3 years of active duty in Germany. Upon his discharge, he returned to Charleston, WV and later moved to Roanoke Valley where he worked for Kroger at Ridgewood Farms. He obtained an AAS degree from VWCC in business and real estate while serving in the Virginia Army National Guard, 1-116th from which he later retired after 20 years of service. He worked in real estate sales while he studied for the position of a US Postal Letter Carrier. Chris went on to work for the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years in both Roanoke County and Roanoke City. It was his favorite occupation; he met and made many friends throughout the community as a letter carrier. Chris was a cat lover – he had many cats over the years, and some were even adopted from his mail routes. He was a member of both St Andrews Catholic Church and Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church. Chris served the Knights of Columbus #562 for many years in Bingo, KOVAR, Basketball Tournaments and was House Rental Chairman. He was also an avid golfer and pool player. Chris had a lifelong love for reading and enjoyed science fiction immensely. He is survived by his partner Victoria Chewning, of Salem VA. He is also survived by brothers, Curtis (Pat) of Rocky Mount, VA, Craig (Rebecca) of Jacksonville, Fl, Michael (Tracey) of Vinton, VA, and Carl Sheets of Salem, Va. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Karen Peters and survived by 2 sisters, Mary Sacco (Frank) of Teays Valley, WV and Michelle Holley (Herbert) of Sissonville, WV and by a large contingent of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews along with many dear friends including Jennifer Sheets of Roanoke, VA. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church on January 23rd at 10:30 am with intermit following at St Andrews Diocesan Catholic Cemetery. Special thanks to all his many caregivers during his illness and to the Good Samaritan Hospice House for the care he received in his final days.
