Clara Eunice Mize

Clara Eunice Mize, age 89, of Martinsville, Va. passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. Clara was born May 19, 1936, in Henry County to the late Harry Trevor Cox and Irene Spangler Cox.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers; Tom, Jesse, John, Wallace, and Grady "Sonny Buck" Cox; sisters, Helen Eggleston, Barbara Martin, and Lorena Compton.

Clara is survived by her husband of 69 years, Frederick “Jackie” Jackson Mize Sr.; son, Frederick “Freddie” Jackson Mize, Jr.; grandchildren, Zachary Mize, Tyler Mize and Andrew Mize; great-grandchildren, Johnathan Mize, Kendall Mize, Brynlee Mize, Ainsleigh Mize, and Waverly Mize; brother, Kennon Cox; sisters, Frances Hundley and Juanita Ramsey.

Clara was very wise spiritually and modeled the Christian values of her strong faith. She was a longtime member of Fontaine Baptist Church.

She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved being around people and was a selfless person who could light up any room. She also loved working in her flower garden and taking spontaneous riding trips on a motorcycle with her husband. She was a very pretty lady who was voted Miss Ridgeway of 1952.

A celebration of Clara’s life will be held for her family and close friends at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at McKee-Stone Funeral Home and will be officiated by Pastor Merle Brown. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
