Clarence "Pete" Douglas Newman

Clarence “Pete” Douglas Newman, 87, of Bassett, passed away Monday, March 28, 2022 at his home.  He was born in Henry County on June 26, 1934 to the late Clarence Frank Newman and the late Ruth Shelton Newman.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Verlie Stone Newman; brothers, Daniel Wayne Newman and Emmitt Stanley Newman.
 Pete was a U. S. Army Veteran and a member of Abundant Grace Church where he served as a deacon.
 Pete is survived by a daughter, Vicky Newman; granddaughters, Kelly Rector, Samantha Greer and Hannah Linkous; grandsons, T.J. Gilman and Daniel Linkous; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Frank Newman, Jr.; sisters, Virginia Louise Shivley and Betty Jean Scott;  numerous nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.
 The family will receive friends on Monday, April 4, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel where a funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM with Pastor Frank Newman, Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow in Old Center Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Bassett.
