Clifton Herman Williams
Clifton H. Williams II, 47, of Mechanicsville, Virginia passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023. He was born March 21, 1975, in Emporia, Virginia, to the late Clifton Herman Williams and Mamie Faye Bailey Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clarence Williams and Elizabeth Williams Prince; maternal grandmother, Emma Babson; uncle, Ernest Bailey; aunt, Peggy (Todd) Grizzard; and cousin, Cleo Bailey. Clifton is survived by his wife, Carol Lynn Byers Williams; nephew, Jacob A. Byers; aunt, Irene (Frank) Ogletree; aunt, Peggy Bailey; uncle, Jerry (Marie) Bailey; uncle, Cliff (Louise) Bailey; and cousins, Michelle Ogletree, Sondra Livesay, Chris Bailey, Crystal Council, Derek Bailey, and Kenneth Francis. He is also survived by his adored pets: Wendy; Katy; Luke; Skip; Carly, and JP. Clifton was a 1993 graduate of Greensville County High School. As a young boy he loved trains. His family spent many hours working on model trains in their basement. Clifton spent 17 years working for CSX as a Locomotive Conductor, then as an Engineer. He had a passion for the arts. He loved music and enjoyed many genres including rock, progressive metal, blues, soul, and jazz. Listening to live music was a favorite pastime. He enjoyed playing the guitar. His dad taught him to play at a young age and gifted him his first Fender guitar. This Fender was always his favorite guitar of his collection to play. In memory of his dad, Clifton carried a stunning tattoo on his upper right arm of his dad’s beloved Gibson guitar. You could also find Clifton practicing and critiquing his photography skills. He was a talented self-taught photographer and over the years took pictures for many organizations and local Richmond bands. His most recent accomplishment is one of his photos of Main Street Station in Richmond, Virginia was selected by the United States Postal Service to be on a postage stamp in a 2023 series of Classic Railroad Stations across America. He was an avid Pittsburgh Penguins hockey fan. Clifton and Carol frequently attended games to cheer on their favorite team. Recently, he discovered a love for flying drones. Clifton also enjoyed being outside on his tractor, loved cats, and always considered his kitty Smokey his best friend. A private service will be held at a later date.
