Colen Eugene “Cokie” Davidson, Sr., 74, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, October 19, 2023. He was the husband of Teressa Arrington Davidson. 

Born in Lynchburg, VA, on December 27, 1948, he was a son of the late Lucille Phelps Davidson and Rev. William Fred Davidson. 

Cokie graduated from Rustburg High School. After graduation he joined the National Guard and worked for Taylor Brothers Lumber Co. and B & W. He joined the Virginia State Police on a dare from a friend and retired after 20 years of service. There he found his true calling and his lifelong best friend, Tom Andrews. 

After retirement from the State Police, he operated Concord Truck and Tractor, Inc. There he found his second calling, selling and deal making, and another lifelong best friend, Doc Daniels. Cokie could sell ice cream to an Eskimo. 

He was a member of Thomas Terrace Baptist Church. During the summers when visiting Smith Mountain Lake, he attended Sandy Level Baptist “Boat” Church. 

Cokie had a keen awareness of how people were doing in life. When love was needed it was provided. When tough love or a kick in the butt was needed those were plentiful as well. He helped a lot of people. He faced trials and tribulations in his life and numerous health issues in the last few years and throughout it all his faith was rock solid and only grew stronger. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Colen Eugene “Gene” Davidson, Jr. (Debra), Jessica Davidson Elliott (Wyatt), William Tyler Davidson, Jessica Doss Pack (Rick), and Michelle Doss Bryant (Matthew); nine grandchildren, Colen Eugene “Cole” Davidson, III, Luke Conner Davidson, Davis Wyatt Elliott, Madison Grace Elliott, Alexandra Pack Neal (Cody), Henry Broderick Pack V, Rachel Pack Peterson (Jon), Jackson Allen Cates, and Nicholas Scott Bryant; a sister, Sharon D. Crowder; a brother, Rev. Ronald T. Davidson (Claudia); a special mother-in-law, Clara Arrington; six sisters-in-law, Tricia Davidson, Jackie Davidson, Linda Owen (Joe), Sherry Blanks (Ronnie), Jan Rogers (Doug), and Tracy Johnson (Chris); and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a wife, Kim Hendren Davidson and her parents, Richard and Nancy Hendren; a brother, Gary L. Davidson; a sister, Wanda F. Davidson; brother-in-law, Rev. Nolan Crowder; father-in-law, Mac Arrington; and a nephew, Jeremy Rodgers. 

A funeral service officiated by Pastor Mark Grooms will be held 3 pm, Sunday, October 22, 2023, in Thomas Terrace Baptist Church, 10660 Richmond Hwy., Lynchburg, VA 24502. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 until the start of the service.
