Connie Fenton
Connie Rae Downes Fenton, of Covington, Virginia, was called home by the Lord on Saturday, November 23, 2024. Connie, age 73, passed away peacefully at her residence. While Connie will be sadly missed by family, and all who knew her, we are heartened by her reuniting with God, family, and friends in heaven.
Connie was born on September 5, 1951, in Clifton Forge, Virginia, to the late Elwood Whitsel Downes and Lena Margaret Arritt Downes. She worked for Westvaco and was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she served on the Missionary Circle.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Delberta Haynes.
She is survived by her son, Patrick Morgan and wife Ginny of Daleville; sister, Ruth Via of Covington; two beloved grandchildren, Riley Morgan and Mason Morgan; and her nephews and nieces, Mitchell Haynes, Shannon Haynes, Tabatha Lewis, Brandy Snead, Gary Goode, and Creigh Via.
Connie was a devout Christian and spent much of her time with her church family. She wondered at nature’s beauty, loved all animals, and enjoyed the simpler things in life. She reminisced about beach trips taken to Ocracoke Island, would sometimes wonder at the gracefulness of a butterfly, or marvel at the beauty of God’s promise in a rainbow. She loved the companionship of great friend Pat Tacy and sister Ruth during their regular lunch outings. Most especially, she loved spending time with her son and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
Above all, Connie was a caring and loving mother. Her many years of hard work and sacrifice ensured her son and grandchildren would realize opportunities she herself would never see. There are not enough words to fully characterize my mother or the love and admiration I will always have for her. We will cherish her in our hearts until we meet again in heaven. Until then, every rainbow I see will bring a smile to my face, as I am reminded of you, Mother.
In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 7, at 1PM, at Calvary Baptist Church, in Covington, Virginia.
