Connie Lowell Herman

February 28, 1950 - February 3, 2025

Connie Lowell Herman affectionally known as “Mimmy” was called home Monday, February 3, 2025 by her Lord and Savior. A devoted educator, she spent over five decades committed to teaching children to read. She also served as a mentor and trainer of student teachers. Connie’s devotion to education, especially reading was known throughout the United States by way of the many conferences she attended and presented in. Her creativity and collaboration along with her positive spirit inspired all who taught with her and those she mentored. Popular children’s authors called her by name and sought to engage her in conversations. She participated in a Fulbright Scholarship program through Virginia Tech, which was filled with instructional techniques for teachers and learners in Malawi in Sub-Saharan Africa at the Domasi Demonstration Primary School. Her devotion to her career was only surpassed by her love of her family which included her friends and colleagues. Connie will surely be missed. She was escorted by angels to a heavenly home where she is probably exploring ways to find uninterrupted time to read, read, read. Surviving are her husband of 54 years, John “Pops”; two sons, Jeremy “JJ” and Josh “Fluffy” and his wife Leann; her grandson, Morgan; two sisters, Shirley Middleton and June Kay Owens both of Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Franklin County High School Baseball Booster Club. A memorial visitation will be held at Flora Funeral Service, 1:00-3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 22, 2025. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
