Courtney Brammer Driver

July 3, 1992 - June 6, 2025

Courtney Brammer Driver, 32, passed away on June 6, 2025, freed from pain and embraced in the arms of her Savior. Courtney walked faithfully through brain cancer for three years, full of grace, grit, humility, and hope, and we who love her rejoice in the confidence that she is healed and whole with her Savior.

Courtney is survived by her loving husband of nearly ten years, Brett, and the joy of her life, her daughter Anna Kate. Her parents, Chuck and Sue Brammer, and her brother Hunter (Wrenne), walked faithfully beside her through all of her days, especially her final ones. She is also survived by her beloved in-laws, Don and Sheri, sister-in-law Emily Myers (Greg), and niece and nephew, Madison and Gabriel.

In addition, Courtney is also survived by her grandparents, Charles Joseph Brammer of Richmond, VA; Judy Edwards of Hardy, VA; and Ray and Sallie Edwards of High Point, NC; along with aunt Sherri Gallahan (Steve) and uncles Chris Edwards (Susan) and Jay Twitty (Amy). She loved and cherished her extended family, countless dear friends, and all those she worked alongside at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Courtney is preceded in death by paternal grandmother, Janice Brammer.

Courtney was born July 3, 1992, in Norfolk, Virginia, and she spent her childhood in High Point, North Carolina. She grew up with a love for the Hokies, beach trips, community youth drama productions, youth group, and a house full of people. Her summers were spent at one of her favorite places, Camp Seafarer, where she attended as a camper and later joined staff. She attended Wesleyan Christian Academy, where she played basketball and soccer (if only for the halftime snacks), invested in lifelong friendships, and graduated in 2010 before heading to Virginia Tech to pursue a degree in Human Development.

A 2014 graduate of Virginia Tech, Courtney received her master’s in Occupational Therapy from Jefferson College of Health Sciences in 2016 and spent her career working as an Acute Care Occupational Therapist at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital . She excelled in her field, serving as one of the only OTs with the advanced skills required to work with patients in the Cardiothoracic Surgical Intensive Care Unit with the most critically ill patients. Not only was she uniquely certified to do this, but it was her favorite part of her job. She made long-lasting relationships with patients and their families who survived because of her dedicated and compassionate care.

Courtney was a faithful member of Citylight Church in Roanoke for more than ten years, where she loved being part of small groups, served in youth ministry, and proudly held the title of 2018 Pie Bake-Off Champion. She also delighted in serving middle and high school girls on The Spring leadership team and worshipping at The Well alongside other women in the Roanoke Valley.

When she was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in 2022, she and Brett committed to live out her days with their eyes set on eternity. Courtney wanted, first and foremost, for Anna Kate to know how loved she was by Courtney and, more so, by her Savior. Courtney’s heart was for those around her to see the light of Christ in her–and her mission was accomplished, day after day. Though she knew her days this side of eternity were limited, she knew that the hope of Heaven was far greater than anything this world had to offer.

In her final days, as her voice weakened, she continued to mouth gospel truths and promises to all who visited her. She also continued to roll her eyes at us all, in true Courtney-fashion. Her never-ending storytelling, sassy stubbornness, and hilarious one-liners will live on in infamy for all those who loved her. As we’ve reflected on our relationships with Courtney, the common thread is that she was a friend to all, inspired everyone to love more deeply, and made everything more fun. Above anything, in both her life and death, Courtney made us all want to know and love Jesus more.

To live is Christ and to die is gain (Philippians 1:21), and we rest–heartbroken but full of hope–in the confidence that Courtney is healed, whole, and Home, embraced in the arms of her Father–her faith is now in sight. She held closely to Psalm 23, and we have peace knowing she is now dwelling in the house of the Lord forever. Throughout her cancer journey, Courtney said repeatedly, “If this suffering brings even one person to know Jesus, it will all have been worth it.”

The family will receive visitors on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Salem, VA. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church – Roanoke, 321 Marshall Ave SW, Roanoke, VA 24016. The Interment will be held privately with her family at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
