Cynthia Kilburn Bowles

March 15, 1958 - February 19, 2026

After a brave and grace-filled battle with cancer, Cynthia Lois Kilburn Bowles (“Cindy”) passed away on Thursday, February 19th surrounded by the love of her family. Cindy was born on March 15, 1958, in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, and called Roanoke home for the last 55 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Colin and Lois Kilburn; her sister, Ellen “Lynne” Kilburn; and her niece, Kristin Anne Leonard.

Cindy is survived by her husband, Garry Bowles of Roanoke; her children, Megan Bowles of Roanoke and Katie Law (Mark) of Snow Creek; her brother, Barry Kilburn of Spokane, Washington; her grandchildren, Karter and Talan Law of Snow Creek; her nephew, Nicholas Kilburn of Spokane Valley, Washington; her niece, Sydnee Jacobs (Tyler) of Post Falls, Idaho; her great-nieces, Paige, Brynlee, and Jaidyn Jacobs of Post Falls, Idaho; and her grand-dog, Charlotte.

A graduate of Northside High School and Brandon Secretarial & Accounting College, Cindy worked faithfully in the legal field for over 40 years, earning deep respect through her dedication, consistency, and care.

Cindy was known for her sweet, warm spirit, quiet strength, and unwavering love for her family. She was the devoted wife of nearly 48 years to Garry Wayne Bowles, her best friend and shag-dancing companion. Together they found happiness in adventure and making memories, living by the lyrics of Here for a Good Time by George Strait, a joyful reminder to be present and savor every moment.

Above all, Cindy was the very best Mom and Gramma. She selflessly poured love into every detail, creating unforgettable memories while providing an irreplaceable sense of comfort and calm. Everything she did carried a special, magical touch. Never seeking recognition, she found fulfillment simply in loving well. A devoted animal lover, especially of dogs, her gentle spirit extended to every living thing.

Proud of her Canadian roots, Cindy held a lifelong love for hockey and figure skating. She shared that passion by teaching skating alongside her sister for nearly ten years in the Roanoke Valley, offering encouragement and confidence to countless young skaters.

Her faith was deeply personal and grounded in love and kindness. Cindy’s relationship with God shaped the way she cared for others and lived each day.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate care teams at University of Virginia Medical Center, especially the staff on 5th Central, and to the dedicated nurses of Amedisys Hospice, for the kindness, comfort, and dignity they provided Cindy and her family during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Cindy’s memory to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or K9s For Warriors, organizations close to her heart.
