Cynthia Lee Tomlin Bowling
We all were blessed for so many years with the love, life, and friendship of Cynthia T. Bowling. On May 21st Cynthia passed away on at Fairmont Crossing Heath and Rehabilitation Center, 21 days shy of her 99th birthday.
Cynthia Lee Tomlin Bowling was born June 11, 1926 in Amherst County, the eldest daughter to the late Morris Fletcher Tomlin, Sr. and Gertrude Lee Tomlin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Massie Bowling; siblings: Thuel Tomlin, Hiram Tomlin, Grover Tomlin, Pauline Ramsey, Mildred Martin, Lucy Burch, and Jerry Tomlin.
Cynthia was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Cynthia lived a life devoted to her faith, family, and friends. She was a homemaker, caring for her family and home. She worked alongside her husband, Massie, on the farm, in the crops, in the apple orchard, in the vegetable garden and strawberry patch. Cynthia was known for her cooking and baking abilities and her beautiful flower gardens. She cared for her mother and many of her siblings during their unwellnesses.
After her husband passed in 1995, Cynthia and her church ladies would gather at each other’s homes regularly for “sweets” and a great game of “Rook”. They would also call each other to talk about how the Atlanta Braves were playing.
Cynthia is survived by her daughters: Evelyn B. Martin (Phil), and Charlotte B. Jennings (Mike); her granddaughters: Tara M. Hash (William), Holly R. Martin (Jenn), Heidi J. Curd (Robert), and Ashley J. Sulzinger (Dan); her beloved great grandchildren: Leeann Floyd, Thomas Floyd, Joseph Floyd, William Curd, Aiden Curd, Massie Sulzinger, Ellie Kate Hash, Carrington Curd, Afton Sulzinger, Corbin Hash, Dawson Hash, Porter Curd, and Pavin Sulzinger; her brother: Morris Fletcher Tomlin, Jr. (Faye), her brother-in-law: Wesley Burch; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Fairmont Crossing as well as Nayar Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion they provided, Miss Cynthia loved you all! A visitation for family and friends will be held at Driskill Funeral Chapel on Saturday, May 24, 2025 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at the church’s cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, P.O.
