Cynthia Martin Light
CYNTHIA (“CINDY”) MARTIN LIGHT, 67, of Narrows, VA, was called to her Heavenly home while surrounded by many beloved friends and family on Friday, December 13, 2024. Cindy was born on October 1st, 1957 and was the daughter of the late William Earnest (“Corky”) Martin and Leona S. Brookman Martin.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Leon Edsel Light.
She is survived by her son, Jonathan Martin Light (Emily Catherine Hawkins) of Narrows, brother-in-law Richard W. Light of Narrows, niece Susan E. Bland (Ronnie) of Blacksburg and their son Wade Bland of Blacksburg.
A proud Green Wave, Cindy was a 1975 graduate of Narrows High School. After graduating from high school, Cindy went on to graduate from New River Community College with her associates degree in Secretarial Sciences. In 1971, Cindy’s parents opened Narrows Flower & Gift where she built her career in floral artistry over 53 years. Cindy was the soul of the flower shop and she dearly loved having her art bring joy to so many people’s lives and being a part of so many occasions in the community. Through the flower shop she made many lifelong friends. She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Narrows, where she met her beloved husband, Leon.
She was also an active member of the Narrows Junior Women’s Club, where she engaged in many philanthropic and community activities to benefit the Giles County Community. Cindy was also a former member of the Progress In Narrows Now and the Narrows Business and Professional Association. Most proud of her son, Jonathan, she was involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts as a leader for many years and as a Band Booster member for the Narrows High School band.
Left to treasure her memory are many special cousins, friends, her dear friend Harold Leist, and her beloved, grand-dog Oreo.
The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, December 19th, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Narrows. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 20th, 2024 at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Narrows with Pastor Stuart Davis and Charles Henderson officiating with burial following in the Fairview Cemetery.
We will miss her laughter, her enduring spirit, and her loving personality. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all of the friends, family, and staff that have helped Cindy at the flower shop over many years.
