Daniel Carl Esau
Dan was born in Iron Mountain, Michigan, but spent most of his growing up years in Minnesota (Mountain Lake). After his high school graduation in 1943, he enlisted in the Army and served in WWII as a paratrooper. He took advantage of the GI Bill and graduated from Taylor University. He spent 10 years working with a mission organization (CEF) mostly in Germany with his wife of 47 years, Betty Esau, who died in 2001. He obtained a Master of Theology degree from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1969 and served as a Postal Inspector. He used his theological training to preach and teach the last 50 years at Grace Church in Roanoke, Virginia. Fellow members became his church family. In 2004, he married Flo English, who passed away in 2016.
Survivors are Cyndy Esau and husband, David Sexton, Dr. Brian Esau, Valerie Trail, Matthew and Erica Gibson, great grandson, Benjamin, Sue Crowe, and Renee Damgaard and husband, Neil.
The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem on Thursday, April 6, 2023 from 3 to 6 p.m. A graveside service will be held in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park on Friday, April 7, 2023 at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 12 noon at Grace Church with Pastor Charlie Evans officiating.
