Daniel "Dan" Eric Swope
Daniel Eric Swope, 47, of Salem, Virginia, but formerly of Norman, Okla. and Richmond, Va., died on July 9, 2024. Dan is preceded in death by his grandparents, Howard and Marie Frye and Robert and June Swope, as well as by his father-in-law, George Ploch and brother- in law, Zachary Ploch.
Dan was born on December 1, 1976, in St. Charles, Mo., and in 1995, graduated from Union High School in Union, Mo. Following graduation, he enlisted and proudly served in the U.S. Army National Guard in Missouri. In 2001, Dan married the love of his life, the former Lisa Ploch, on April 28, 2001, in Peru, Illinois. He was a dedicated employee of CarMax for 18 years and last served as the general manager in the dealership’s Roanoke location. Community engagement was important to him, and he’d recently become a member of the Salem Rotary Club. In his spare time, Dan enjoyed woodworking and handicrafts and being outdoors riding his e-bike, kayaking, or camping.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 23 years, Lisa Ploch Swope; his parents, Robert and Carol Swope; brother, Jason Swope; nieces, Ryleigh and Mackenzie Swope; mother-in-law, Marijeane Ploch, as well as two feline friends, Avo and Havana.
A gathering of friends for a celebration of his life will be held from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the Fishburn Mansion, located at 714 13th Street SW, Roanoke, Va. 24016.
