David Barry Norman

Mr. David Barry Norman, age 63, of Mount Airy, passed away on Sunday morning, September 17, 2023, surrounded by his family at his home. He was born on August 19,1960 in Surry County to Margaret Woodruff Norman Bondurant and the late James Arnold Norman. David proudly served our country in the US Army and was a member of Amazing Grace Baptist Church. Papa Dabids always put others first before himself. He loved to give blessings and be rewarded with a smile. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 38 years, Rhonda Sun Whitaker Norman; three daughters, Tera Norman, Jessica Norman, and Jennifer Norman; one grandson, Logan Norman; his mother and stepfather, Margaret Woodruff Norman Bondurant and Darrell; grand fur babies, Skye, Daisy, Cooper, and Sasha; bonus daughter, Adriene Edmonds; bonus son, Will Sisk; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ron and Helen Whitaker; aunt, Nonnie Durham; sisters-in-law, Carla Bledsoe and Chad, and Christy Edmonds; brother-in-law, Rodney Whitaker and Sarah; and many other cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends. Mr. Norman was preceded in death by his father, James Arnold Norman; and his grandparents, James W. Norman and Caroline McCreary Norman, and Clarence W. Woodroof and Hattie Marshall Woodruff. Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 21, 2023, at 2:00PM at Amazing Grace Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Jonathan Barker and Rev. Arlis Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday at the church from 12:00 ~ 2:00PM. The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to all of David’s prayer warriors, the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care especially his special nurse Stephanie Scearcy, and the Novant Oncology Team for all of the love and support given to him and the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to a memorial fund in care of Rhonda Norman, 114 Nannys Way, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
