David H. Shively

David H. Shively, Jr., age 68, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at his home. He was born on March 10, 1957, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late David H. Shively, Sr. and JoAnn Ingram Shively. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Shively; son, Jeffery David Shively, Sr.; daughter, Jennifer Marie Shively; and brother, Samuel James Shively.

David retired after many years of dedicated service as a truck driver. He was a faithful member of Mount Hermon Church of the Brethren and previously a long-time member of Bassett Church of the Brethren. In his retirement, he remained active in his church community, often driving the church bus to events and offering his support in many thoughtful ways. Above all, David deeply loved his family and took great pride in caring for his beloved wife.

He is survived by three grandsons, Jeffery Shively, Jr., Chase Shively, and Jayden Shively; three sisters, Sherry Fulton, Nancy Jefferson (Ron), and Elizabeth Shively (Darryl); two stepsisters, Deena Whitlow (Bill) and Renee Fulcher (Jeff); one stepbrother, Ricky Handy; along with a several nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Rick Randall officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Bowles Family Cemetery.
