David Marshall Cannaday

David Marshall Cannaday, 77, of Ferrum, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home by his wife’s side on Sunday August 4th, 2024. He was born February 27, 1947, in Patrick County, Virginia to the late Odell Ben Cannaday and Rosie Alice Cannaday.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy Cannaday (Betty), and Kermit Cannaday (Minnie Lou).David was a dedicated truck driver for over fifty-two years and was a member of Pleasant Hill Church. He enjoyed attending car shows and owned his own car repair garage. He was known as a “Jack-of-All-Trades”. Most of all, he valued and loved his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed taking his family on truck driving trips and camping. He enjoyed seeing others happy and knowing he made an impact in their lives.He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Rita Cannaday; daughter Angela Hatcher (Michael); son, Michael David Cannaday (Bridget); sister Mary Jane Murphy (James); and grandchildren, Marshall Ray Hatcher and Mychael Rose Hatcher. He is also survived by a special brother-in-law, Donald Cannaday; and special friend, Ernie Setliff.A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pleasant Hill Church at 2717 Ruritan Road, Rocky Mount, VA 24151. The funeral service will be held Thursday, August 8th, 2024, at 11:00 AM at New Hope Church of the Brethren, 2007 New Hope Rd., Stuart, VA 24171, with Pastor Henry Butler. Burial will follow at Ross Harbour Methodist Church Cemetery at 6260 Elamsville Road, Stuart, VA 24171. A visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at New Hope Church of the Brethren.In lieu of flowers, donations and memorials can be made to Pleasant Hill Church, 90 Sherwood Lane, Rocky Mount, VA 24151.
