David William Powell

David William Powell Sr., 86, passed away on December 22, 2024 at his residence. David was born on January 11, 1938 to the late Cordie Daniel Powell and the late Robert Powell. He was predeceased by his loving wife of many years, Mrs. Eleanor Marie Powell.

David was of the Christian Faith and was a member of Central Boulevard Church of God. He proudly served his country in the United States Airforce. He worked for many years as a truck driver for Stoneville Furniture Company previous to his retirement. After retirement, he enjoyed transporting vehicles for numerous car dealerships in Danville. He was also an avid NASCAR Fan and loved race cars.

David is survived by two daughters; Wanda Bird and husband Stephen of Nellysford, VA and Pam Brasher and husband Jim of Witchita, KS; a son; David W. Powell Jr. and wife Janice of Providence, NC; two sisters; Aldeen Gatewood of Murfreesboro, NC and Clarice Carter and her special friend, Reggie Ballard of Forest, VA; six grandchildren; Virginia Bird Robinson and husband Keion, Caroline Bird, Audrey Bird, Erin Montogomery, Jason Tuttle, and Katie Bellino; and multiple great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, David was predeceased by a brother; Curtis Powell; and special friend; Geneva Pruitt.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024 at 2:00pm at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, with Pastor Billy Hedrick officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park, Danville, VA. A visitation will be held on the same day prior to the service from 1-2:00pm, also at Norris Mt. Hermon chapel.
