Deacon Charles Booker
Charles A. Booker, Jr., of Gladstone, VA went home to be with the Lord on January 29, 2025. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Lorraine Booker; his parents Charles and Pearl Booker, sisters Earl Hudson (Jack), Hazel Evans and Marilyn Booker.
Charles joined the Mount Airy Baptist Church as a youngster and held various positions of leadership, including President of the Usher Board, Chairman of the Deacon Board, Chairman of the Trustee Board, Sunday School Teacher, and Superintendent of the Sunday School.
Charles retired from the Lynchburg Foundry after 39 years of outstanding performance and dedication. He also held a second job for 36 years at Webb’s Tire Company in Appomattox. He enjoyed family time and was a great conversationalist when it came to sharing the Word of God. He also enjoyed gardening, watching old westerns and Nascar Racing.
Charles was loved and respected throughout the community. He served as President of the local NAACP and Vice-Chairman of the Appomattox School Board over the years. His gentle words of wisdom, unconditional love, and genuine encouragement spans ages and geographical distances.
There are many who now cherish his memory including his devoted children; Marie Forest, Larry Booker (Pamela), Betty Lee, Cecil Booker (Jackie), Janet Booker, and Alvin Booker; adoring grandchildren Frank Forest, Jr., Keith Forest, Torria Landry (Neal), Daina Beecher, Donna Powell, Ashlee Lee, Dr. Jordan Booker, Chas Oliver (Liza), Candace Lee, and Kendal Booker; loving great-grandchildren, Keith Forest, II, SaDonna Powell, SaVannah Beecher, Nadia Lewis, Johanna Beecher, and Malcolm Koch. Charles is also survived by his siblings, Bobby Booker (Betty), and Phyllis Booker; sisters-in-law Annie Mae Thornton, Nannie Watkins (James), and Gwendolyn Fleshman; brothers-in-law George Fleshman, and Charlie (Gus) Evans. He was blessed with a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Charles A. Booker will be missed. Gone but never forgotten.

Public viewing will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Bruce & Stiff Funeral Home., 1121 Old Courthouse Rd., Appomattox, VA 24522.
A Funeral Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, 1 p.m. at Mt. Airy Baptist Church, 167 Coleman’s Mill Road Gladstone, VA 24553. A repast will follow the service.
Interment will be in Promise Land Baptist Church Cemetery, 5562 Promise Land Rd., Appomattox, VA 24522.
