Deacon James Edward Hairston
Deacon James Edward Hairston, 86, of Martinsville, Virginia, entered his eternal rest with his Savior on Thursday, August 7, 2025. He was born August 29, 1938, in Virginia, to the late Sam W. Hairston and Marandy Wells Hairston.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Robinson; and brothers, Dave Hairston, Elbert Hairston, and John Hairston.
Deacon James was of the Christian faith and a deacon at Greater Vision Assembly Pentecostal Holiness Church in Collinsville, Virginia. He was a dedicated employee of J.D. Bassett Furniture in the finishing room for over three decades. He played the guitar and enjoyed fishing as well as watching westerns and the races. One of his favorite meals was seafood. James’ love for his family was evident in the way he was always picking on his wife, Fibbie, and the ways he found to keep their love alive. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren are the recipients of his legacy of love and faith and his deep love for them will forever be imprinted on their hearts.
Left to honor and cherish his memory are his loving wife, Fibbie Ann Dillard Hairston; daughters, Rosie Mary Wimbush (Clifford),Evelyn R. Gravely (Dwayne) all of Martinsville, Virginia and Lisa L. Manns (Elder Sherman Manns),of Bassett, Virginia; sons, James K. Hairston, Everette Hairston (Melinda) of Martinsville, Virginia; brother, Timothy Hairston of West Virginia; 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 12:30 PM at Refuge Temple Ministries. Interment will follow at Fair Haven Memorial Park. Visitation will be held one-half hour prior to the service. There will also be a floating visitation Friday, August 15, 2025, from 2:00 PM-5:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. The family will also receive friends and guests at the home located at 1151 E. Church Street, Apt. 19-B, Martinsville, Virginia, from 3:00 PM-7:00 PM daily ,the family request all food donations be bought to the home..
