Deborah Cyrus Doss Brooks
Deborah Cyrus Doss Brooks, 75, of Madison Heights, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on May 4, 1950 in Williamsburg, she was the daughter of the late James and Phyllis Cyrus. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, David Doss; her brother, James “Buddy” Cyrus, Jr.; her sister, Brenda C. Reynolds; and her two brothers-in-law, Ronald L. Reynolds and Marvin Beck.
Deborah was happiest when she was spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved going to the beach and going fishing. She was a member of the American Legion Post 274 and had many cherished friendships that she made there over the years.
She is survived by her second husband of 20 years, Danny Brooks; two daughters, Melissa Doss Hess (Bear) and Kimberly Doss Scruggs (Frederick); stepdaughter, Wendy Brooks; grandchildren, Taylor Scruggs Phillips (Blake), Austin Scruggs, Diana Carter Zeno and Nicolas Scruggs; seven great grandchildren; one sister who was her hero, Dawn Cyrus Beck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be conducted on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel officiated by Pastor J. Mike Dodson. Interment will immediately follow the service at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
The family would like to thank Dr. Tebit and the staff at Pearson Cancer Center and Heartland Hospice for the love and compassionate care shown to Deborah.
