Deborah Kaye George Chilton

April 9, 1952 - October 24, 2024

Deborah “Debbie” George Chilton passed away peacefully at her home on October 24, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on April 9, 1952, in Mount Airy, NC to the late Margie Fain Lee, Debbie led a life devoted to family, creativity, and warmth.

She worked for many years at Quality Mills and Belk Department Stores, and in the late 1990s, she also ran a homemade ceramics business, sharing her artistic talents with the community. In her retirement, Debbie found joy and peace at her cherished beach house in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.

Debbie is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, Lewis Dean Chilton, of the home. She leaves behind two sons, Scottie Chilton (Amber) of Mount Airy and Josh Chilton (Nicole) of Huntersville. Her greatest pride was her role as “MeMe” to her grandchildren—Hannah Baker (Austin), Cameron Chilton, Bella Chilton, and Brayden Chilton—whom she adored and cherished.

She is also survived by her sisters, Margaret King and Diane Scritchfield; her brother, Gary George (Darlene); and her sisters-in-law, Carol Johnson and Kathy Chilton. Debbie will be fondly remembered by her many cousins, nieces, nephews, her special cousin Nancy Hill, and her beloved dog, Bailey.

Debbie was preceded in death by her mother, Margie Lee; her in-laws, Dalmer and Kathleen Chilton; and her infant son, Travis Chilton.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Skyline Memory Garden at 11:00am with Reverend David Tucker presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mountain Valley Palliative Care in her memory.

Debbie’s love, warmth, and devotion to her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, especially her grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.
