Debra Cassell Shorter

Debra Cassell Shorter, 66, of Bassett passed away Friday, August 16, 2024, at Sovah Hospital in Martinsville. She was born August 2, 1958, in Martinsville, Virginia to the late Robert James Cassell, and Nannie Mae Craig CassellIn addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, William “Bill”, Curtis, Larry, James, and Carl Cassell.She was of the Baptist faith, enjoyed BINGO, dancing, reading, music, spending time with her family and friends, and traveling. Two different places she enjoyed going to was the mountains and the beach.Debra is survived by her daughters, April Little, and Christy Tilley; sisters, Judy Holloway, Linda Thoms (Don), and Dorothy Clifton; brothers, Lonnie Cassell (Linda), Chester Cassell (Kaye), and Samuel” Dickie” Cassell (Vickie); grandchildren, Joseph Little and Gavin Groce; and numerous nieces and nephews.The memorial service will be Friday, August 23, 2024, at 4:30 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel, 1425 Greensboro Road, Martinsville, with Pastor Don Thomas officiating. Visitation will be one half hour prior to the service.
