Delma Lee Thomas Beam
Delma Lee Thomas Beam, born on October 11, 1934, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 8, 2024. She is survived by her sister, Kay Turbyfill and seven of her eight children, Dewayne Beam, Dianne Hall (Rusty), Wanda Hairfield (Larry), Barbara Poff, Jerry Beam (Cathy), Ricky Beam (Frances) and Ronnie Beam. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin; her father, Howard Thomas; her mother, Rosie Causby; one daughter (Sharon); one son-in-law (Jimmy); one grandchild, (Steve); and two brothers (Robert and Harold).
Delma was a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Her family was the center of her world, and she leaves behind a cherished legacy of eight children, 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her spirit and love.
She cared deeply for her friends, neighbors, family and anyone that walked through her door. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She raised children that weren’t biologically hers, took in the homeless, fed the hungry, and helped the less fortunate any time that she could.
Delma was known for her kind personality and deep passions. She delighted in making quilts, a craft that she used to create lasting, heartfelt gifts for her loved ones. Her fondness for the color purple reflected her joyful nature, and she spent countless hours immersed in a good book or circle word puzzles, always with a smile on her face. Delma’s love of yard sales and shopping brought her so much happiness, as did cooking delicious meals that became the highlight of family gatherings.
A faithful churchgoer, she was a member of First Assembly of God in Martinsville, Virginia. Delma’s spiritual life was as rich and fulfilling as her personal one. Her Christian beliefs were a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and interactions with those around her. Her unwavering faith illuminated every path she walked, guiding her family with a grace that only deep belief can inspire. As we mourn her loss, we find solace knowing her spirit now rests in the eternal embrace of the Lord that she cherished so deeply.
Though deeply missed, Delma’s memory lives on through the countless lives she touched with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love. Her family and friends find comfort in the lasting impact of her legacy and the cherished memories they hold dear.
