Dennis Aold Rampey

- January 30, 2025

Dennis Arnold Rampey, Jr., 63, of Christiansburg, Virginia died Thursday, January 30, 2025, at his home surrounded by family. He was born in South Carolina on June 1, 1961, to Dennis Arnold Rampey, Sr. and the late Betty B. Rampey. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Melissa (Wylie) Rampey; son Logan Rampey; daughter Brittney Tallent; 4 grandchildren; father Arnold Rampey Sr.; sister Alvina Mitchell; brothers Bill Godwin, Bryan Godwin, and Brent Rampey. Dennis spent many years in construction, at the beach, in the big city, small towns, and the country. He could do a complete project from laying footers to foundation, walls, roof, wiring, plumbing, plaster…And then outfit the interior. A brilliant carpenter, he had the ability to build beautifully from plans in his head, whether a simple bench or a curved grand staircase. Working at Virginia Tech for the last several years was a high point for him and a culmination of his life’s work. Teaching his trade to a younger generation made him feel fulfilled. He would go antiquing at an early age with his father and continued antiquing the rest of his life. Football and baseball kept him sore in his youth. Later he enjoyed skiing, golfing, and fishing. He loved going down the river, any river, from the Chattooga and Green to the Little and New. Denny and Melissa would often joke about it taking almost 50 years to find love, but when they did it was as if they had always been together. They met at Home Depot and even though he took different jobs he remained a part of the family. He taught her his love of kayaking the river and searching for that perfect antique something. He also gave her the ability to rely and trust. He fought long and hard through much pain and suffering. Even through his suffering Denny kept his ability to find humor in any situation until he passed. He has no pain now and is free. A kindhearted man, he will be greatly missed by many. No services are scheduled at this time.
