Dennis Haywood Gibson

Dennis Haywood Gibson Sr., 100, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his family. Dennis was born in Cascade, VA, on August 31, 1925 to the late Lillie Sue Wilson Gibson and the late Frank Smith Gibson. He was also predeceased his by loving wife of many years, Mrs. Mary Ann Mize Gibson.

Dennis was of the Christian Faith and was a longtime member of Sharon Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Church Treasurer. Dennis was also a member of the Ruritan Club. Dennis also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for many years at Disston, previous to his retirement.

Dennis is survived by two sons; Dennis Haywood Gibson Jr. (Cathy) and Kenneth Hoskins (Susan); a daughter; Patricia H. Guill (Paul); four grandchildren; Gena Tiedeman (T.J.), Mary Ellen Spencer (Mike), Meghan Swanson and Jessica Napier (Justin); and five great grandchildren; Lucy, Preston, Evan, Ellen and Emmaline.

In addition to his parents, and loving wife, Dennis was predeceased by two brothers; Thomas Ellison Gibson Sr. and Harvey Nelson Gibson; and two sisters; Lois Gibson Wells and Chaney Gibson Payne.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers or food, memorial donations be made to God’ Pit Crew, 2499 North Main Street, Danville, VA 24540.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 11:00am, at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA with Dr. Lance Roberts and Reverend Ray Lawton officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park, Danville, VA. A visitation will be held on the same day previous to the service from 10-11:00am also at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA.
