Dickey Wilson Spraker

November 12, 1937 - October 9, 2023

Dickey Wilson Spraker, 85, of Roanoke, went to his heavenly home on Monday, October 9, 2023. He was born on November 12, 1937, in Bristol, Va., son of the late Carl Wilson Spraker and Clara Ruth Houseman Spraker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant sister, Virginia Ruth Spraker.

Originally of Wythe County, Va., Dickey was no stranger to hard work, as he grew up on a farm. He moved to Roanoke with hopes of becoming employed with the railroad, as he had a deep appreciation for and fascination with trains. While that may not have worked out as he had planned, Dickey found a 38-year career in data processing for Shenandoah Life Insurance Company.

He was a faithful member of Central United Methodist Church, in Salem, since 1960. He regularly attended the Challengers Sunday school class, and served for many years as its treasurer.

When not at work or spending time at church, you may have found Dickey at home taking care of his lawn and garden. Above all, he was very devoted to not only his immediate family but to his extended family.

Family remaining to cherish his memory includes his devoted wife of 64 years, Lorraine Semones Spraker; daughters, Carol Adams (Dennis) and Donna Earwood (Donald); grandchildren, Scott Adams (Jenna), Eric Adams (Carissa), and Maggie Earwood; great-grandchildren, Calvin, Madelyn, Braydon and Claire; sisters-in-law, Elaine Sult, Pat Cale (Robert), Nancy Tucker; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from noon until 2 pm at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens mausoleum chapel, Airport Road, Roanoke. Services to honor his life will follow, starting at 2 pm with Pastor Bryan Buckles officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central United Methodist Church in Salem.
