Dollie Mae Gilley
Dollie Mae Gilley, 78, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024. She was born on December 22, 1945, in Franklin County, Virginia, to the late Cillia Mae Cox and Ott Cox. She is also preceded in death by her husband, of over 30 years, Curtis Gilley; son, Ray Gilley; and daughter, Jeanie Belcher.
Dollie worked in the textile industry most of her life, finally settling as a cook at Bassett Walker. If you did not know her at work, then you may have known her by “Miss Dollie,” a pillar in the Sanville community. For many years, you could see her on her front porch enjoying the outdoors and giving a friendly wave to anyone that drove past. She loved gardening, and never passed up and good yard sale or flea market. She was always there to give a helping hand or lend a listening ear. She will forever be remembered as a loving and caring woman.
Dollie leaves behind a wonderful legacy and is survived by her daughter, Edith Jarrells (David); son, Roy Gilley; granddaughters, Heather Bridwell (Barry) and Kayla Barley (Matthew); son-in-law, Frank Belcher; great-grandsons, Greyson Jarrells, Roy James “RJ” Barley, and Oliver Smith; sister, Nancy Radford; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dollie’s special friend, Tamberia “Tammy” Andrews, who graciously took Dollie in during her last months and cared for her until she was reunited with the Lord. Your generous and caring heart will forever remain cherished and honored.
There will be a Memorial Service on Friday, May 10, at 4:00PM, at Bassett Funeral Service.
