Dolly Virginia Vest

March 29, 1934 - January 5, 2026

DOLLY VIRGINIA VEST, 91, formerly of the White Gate community of Giles County, gained her angel wings at the home of her son, Gary, in Warrenton, VA, on Monday, January 5, 2026.

Dolly was born on March 29, 1934 in War, WV, the oldest of nine children to Charlie & Gladys Vest. The family moved to Staffordsville in 1951 and she attended Pearisburg High School her senior year where she met the love of her life, Don.

They were married on June 15, 1952 and lived in White Gate all their married life.  She was “momma” to three children, Sandi, Gary and John.

Dolly was a member of Mt. Zion Church in White Gate, where she taught the Young Adult Sunday School class for over 20 years and was a member of the White Gate Ruritan Club, where she was Chairperson  of the Food Committee for many years.  She loved her community and was always more than willing to be of any service she could be.

She is survived by her children,  Sandi Vest Countiss, Fairlawn, VA, Gary Vest, Warrenton, VA, and John Vest, a resident of Radford  Health & Rehab.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Chris Vest, Fairlawn, Johnathan & Alivia Vest, Christiansburg, Joshua Vest, Warrenton, Jeremy Vest, Mechanicsville, and Benjamin Vest, Fairfax; her great-granddaughter, Haley Vest & Ryan Collins; her great-great-grandchildren, Hudson Vest, Embreigh Vest, Ivery Collins and Chris Collins; a special “adopted” granddaughter, Laura McDonald Hayes( John), Radford, her siblings, Will & Joyce Vest, Christiansburg,  Larry Dean Vest, Dublin, and  Tim Vest, Pearisburg; her sister-in-law,  Peggy Vest, special extended family members, Ann & Charles McDonald and Eppie Vest and several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Also surviving is someone who she & Don adopted as a son in 1985 while he was building the new road in White Gate, Charles Henderson, known in the family as “Charlie Hender Vest.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie William & Gladys Elizabeth VanDyke Vest, her husband of 57 years, Ross (“Don”) Vest and her siblings, Laura Roe, Dawana Martin, Charlie Vest, Glenna Martin and Alice Brewster.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, White Gate, with Charles Henderson and Jeremy Vest officiating.  Burial will follow in the Stinson Cemetery, White Gate.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home in visitation on  Friday, January 9, 2026 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Donald Yoder, who provided medical care to Dolly and Don until his retirement and Dr. Knotresha and Dr. A.J. Acharya for taking care of Mom after Dr. Yoder retired.
