Don Houston Peters

July 21, 1934 - March 18, 2025

Don Houston Peters, 90, was welcomed to his eternal home by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on March 18, 2025. Born in Roanoke, Viriginia on July 21, 1934, he graduated from Jefferson High School and served in the Army National Guard. He enjoyed a long and successful career at Elizabeth Arden, where he made many lifelong friends.

Don was a devoted and loving husband to his best friend Edith Fink Peters, who predeceased him in 2024 after 37 years of marriage.

Don was also predeceased by his parents, Houston and Regent Peters, and sisters Madalyn Santopolo and Karen Patsel. He is survived by his daughter Dawn Ward (Chuck), son Todd Peters, daughter in law, Cheryl Peters, grandchildren Chris Ward (Heather), Matt Ward (Tiffany), Draven Harger, and great grandchildren James, Jonathan, and Beckett.

Don had a contagious smile and was quick to serve, whether it was honoring Veterans, or fundraising for Shriners Children’s Hospitals as a Shriner Hillbilly, or volunteering at the Rescue Mission’s 2nd Helpings.

Late in life, he made his most important decision – to surrender to the Lord Jesus as his King and Savior. This gave him great hope as he accepted God’s forgiveness and looked forward to His eternal presence.

The family would like to express special thanks to the 8th Air Force Fellowship and Post 64 29th Division, where friends were like brothers to him. He was often emotional when recounting their sacrificial stories. The family is unspeakably grateful to Don’s church family, Peaks Church in Bedford, VA. Their love and acts of kindness to Don and Edith are treasures laid up in heaven.

Friends may visit the family on Friday, April 4, 2025, from 1-2 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem with a memorial service beginning promptly at 2 p.m. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to Wounded Warriors or Shriners Hospitals for Children or the ministry of your choice.
