Dora Fralin "Pinky" Pendleton

June 27, 1935 - January 24, 2023

Dora Fralin “Pinky” Pendleton, 87, of Bassett, Va., died on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at The Woltz Hospice Home in Dodson, N.C. She was born June 27, 1935, in Roanoke County, Va., to the late James Claude Fralin and Nettie Hundley Fralin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Curtis Pendleton, and her two brothers, Howard and Homer Fralin.

Pinky was raised in Roanoke County and attended school in Roanoke, Virginia. While attending church at Poages Mill Church of the Brethren, she met Jim Pendleton. Their relationship grew and they were married on March 8, 1957. Pinky was a homemaker and a loving mother to their two daughters. In 1970, Jim and Pinky moved to Bassett, Virginia. While continuing to take care of her family, she joined the Homemakers Club, attended church with her family, and started Pinky’s Ceramics. She won many awards for her ceramics. Pinky loved gardening, flowers, sewing, canning, and Atlanta Braves Baseball. Pinky’s real joy came when she changed from “Pinky” to “Nana”. She loved her grandkids and great-grandkids. Nana loved to play with them and go to all their activities. She loved her family and family vacations were a highlight each year. Pinky was strong in her faith and taught her family what it meant to have a close relationship with God. She was a fighter who pushed through hard times for herself and her family. Pinky was an example of what it meant to love her family and friends unconditionally.

Pinky is survived by her two daughters, Donna Pendleton Anderson of Bassett, and Sandy Pendleton Arnett (Ernie) of Rocky Mount; two grandchildren, James Anderson (Bresha) of Martinsville, and Joseph Anderson (Tiffany) of Bassett; and her great-grandchildren, Levi, Benjamin, and Maddux Anderson, and Dillon, Grace, and Noah Wade. She is also survived by her two brothers, Linwood Fralin of Salem, and Ray (Helen) Fralin of Roanoke; her two sisters, Julia Manning of Salem, and Marie Saul of Roanoke County, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A viewing will be held from 11:00AM to 1:00PM on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Bassett Funeral Service, where a funeral service will follow at 1:00PM with Pastor Ricky Randall officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hermon Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
