Doris Castle Flinchum
Doris Castle Flinchum, 94, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born in Schoolfield, VA on April 5, 1930 to the late Fannie Wann Castle and the late Robert Wade Castle. She was predeceased by her loving husband of many years, Mr. James Wesley Flinchum.
Doris was of the Christian faith, and a charter member of Bethel Baptist Church. She worked for 40 years at Dan River Inc., previous to her retirement. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother to her entire family.
Doris is survived by two daughters; Rebecca Jane Williams and husband Jerry of Danville, VA and Linda Mae Talley and husband Roger of Chatham, VA; three sons; Jerry Wade Flinchum and wife Marsha of Dry Fork, VA, Keith James Flinchum of Danville, VA, and Wesley Douglas Flinchum and wife Wendy of Dry Fork, VA; 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren; and a special niece; Pat Henley.
In addition to her husband and parents, Doris was predeceased by a son; Donald Wayne Flinchum; two sisters; Nancy Stilwell and Delores Marshall; a brother; Douglas Castle; and two grandchildren; Katie Lynn Flinchum and Jacob Benjamin Flinchum.
The family suggest that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew, 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, VA 24541. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the loving and caring staff at Roman Eagle Nursing Home for all their love and support during Doris’s stay there.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at 2:00pm at Norris West End Chapel, Danville, VA with Pastors Austin Merricks, Daniel Lackey, and Ronnie Pruitt officiating. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens, Danville, VA. A visitation will be held prior to the service on the same day from 1-2:00pm also at Norris West End Chapel. At other times the family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Williams.
