Doris Keatts Tatum
Doris Keatts Tatum, 96, went home on March 6, 2025. She was born on March 7, 1929, in Axton, Pittsylvania County, Virginia, to the late Flournoy Edward Keatts and Emma May Brumfield Keatts. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Bernard Tatum Sr.; son, Jonathan Pryor Tatum; daughter-in-law, Cindy Tatum; and seven brothers and sisters.
She was a homemaker with a passion for caring for her children, extended family, and people in her community. She enjoyed working the “Tatum Farms,” cross-stitching, crocheting, sewing, cooking, preserving vegetables, and fishing on the pier at the ocean.
She is survived by her sons, J.B. Tatum (Bronte) and Tim Tatum; daughter-in-law, Lynn Tatum; grandchildren, Jason Tatum, Amanda Lewis, Racheal DeLorenzo, and Jon David Tatum; six great-grandchildren; and brother, Fred Keatts Sr.
The family would like to thank everyone at Mulberry Creek Rehab and Nursing Home for their excellent care given in her final days. A special thank you is also extended to her wonderful caregivers, Bonnie Keatts, Elaine Preston, Linda Wilson, Debbie Tholance, Cathy Keatts, and Mary Hairston.
There will be a funeral service on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at Norris Funeral Services – Martinsville. Pastor Tom Blair will officiate. The family will accept guests one hour prior to the service. A private burial will be held at a later date.
