Doris Mae Wood

Doris Mae Wood, 93, of Stuart, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Blue Ridge Therapy Connections in Stuart, Virginia. She was born on February 11, 1932, in Henry County, Virginia, to the late Jasper Koger and Berta Hutchinson Koger.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse M. Wood; her son, Larry E. Wood; and her siblings, Christine Davis, Maxine Joyce, Inez Draper, Virginia Koger, Bernard Koger, Maynard Koger, Kenneth Koger, and Wendell Koger.

Doris was a woman of strength, grace, and quiet devotion to her family. She retired after many years of dedicated service at Belk’s in Martinsville, where she enjoyed working with people and took great pride in her work. In addition, she was a self-employed hairdresser, a role that allowed her to connect with and care for others in a personal way.

Doris leaves to cherish her memory her son, Mike D. Wood; her daughter, Anita Gammons; her grandchildren, Nathaniel Gilley and Matthew Gilley; her loving siblings, Eugene Koger (Marjorie) and Helen Knight; as well as a host of extended family members and friends who will forever treasure her memory.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Henry Memorial Park.
