Doris Powell Staton

Doris Powell Staton, 90, of Culpeper, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

Born August 12, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin E. and Liger L. Powell. Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Robert S. Staton; three children, Lois Poteski, Robert E. Staton, and Sharon Canterbury; her daughter-in-law, Sandy Staton; and three siblings, Benjamin E. Powell Jr., Bonnie Wilson, and Annette Vest.

Doris retired after 15 years as a clerk with Murphy’s department store, where she was known for her kind heart and steady dedication. She had a passion for life’s simple joys—yard sales, puzzles, shopping, collecting chickens, and dining out—but her greatest love was time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth Staton (Diana); daughter, Patsy Farrell; sister, Peggy W. Robertson; and son-in-law, Thomas Poteski. Doris also leaves behind 22 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who will carry her memory forward with love.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Doris’s warmth, wit, and unwavering love for her family will never be forgotten.
