Dorothy "Dottie" Elaine Dalton

Dorothy Elaine “Dottie” Dalton, 78, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at her home. She was born on May 17, 1945, in Maxton, North Carolina, to the late George J. Franklin and Florence Elaine Dunbar. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin P. Dalton; a stepmother, Mae Franklin; and three sisters, Ann Cox, Betty Jean Ramsey, and Shirley Nester Byrant.

Dorothy graduated from Bassett High School in 1963. She was employed by Bassett Walker, where she was a seamstress. She was a member of Valley Drive Baptist Church. She enjoyed shopping, playing cards, completing word searches, solving puzzle books, taking cruises, and vacationing at the beach. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her fur baby girl, Cookie.

Dorothy is survived by two sons, Mark Waller and wife Terri, and Dale Waller; two daughters, Deborah Kiefer and husband Jim; Dana Smith and husband Jody; ten grandchildren, Devon Waller, Brandon Hylton, Joe Hylton and wife Caroline, Summer Waller, Nathan Smith, Megan Smith and fiancé Vini, Bryan Waller, Andrew Smith, Chris Workman, and Austin Workman; five great-grandchildren, Allison Rau, Henry Hylton, Ben Hylton, Riley Waller, and Astrid Waller, Jax Morales, and Theseus Morales; and several nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 19, 2024, at Valley Drive Baptist Church from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Valley Drive Baptist Church, with Reverend Bobby Rakes officiating. A burial will take place at Franklin Family Cemetery.
