Dorothy Jane Constant Vaughan Sink

Dorothy Jane Constant Vaughan Sink, 107, of the Bore Auger Community of Bedford County, Virginia, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024. Born in Dawson, Illinois on January 22, 1917, her parents were Herbert Harper Constant and Sophronia Black Constant. At Dorothy’s age of eight, her mother died in an auto collision with a Drunk Driver, and she lived with her uncle Irwin Constant and family in Michigan for a time. She then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and Redlands, California with her father and beloved stepmother, “Mur”, Amy Lucille Heard Constant. While visiting her cousins in Roanoke, Virginia, she met and married her first husband, Sidney Whit Vaughan, Jr. who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her second husband, Clayton Dewey Sink. Both of her husbands retired from the Roanoke City Fire Department, Virginia. Dorothy worked as a beautician early in her life and was a long-time member of Belmont United Methodist Church and Huntington Court United Methodist Church. She also was a member of Electra Chapter No.33 Order of the Eastern Star.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Kenneth Constant Vaughan (Pam), Daughter, Cynthia Lucille Halsey (David) of Blue Ridge, Va; grandchildren, Aaron Kenneth Vaughan (Anne) of Floyd, Va., Stephanie H. Reed (Andrew) of Hilton Head Island, SC, Emily H. Holyoak (Lee) of Bluffton, SC, and Sarah V. Rodgers (K.B.) of Troutville, Va.; great-grandchildren, Nicole H. Reed, Lauren A. Reed, Hannah G. Reed, Autumn S. Vaughan, Gabriel W. Vaughan, Madeline S. Holyoak, Liam S. Holyoak and Eleanor T. Rodgers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Genesis Church, 3539 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, Va. 24019 or Good Samaritan Hospice House, 4751 Cove Road, NW, Roanoke, Va. 24017-1138.

A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Lotz Funeral Home, 1001 Franklin Road, Roanoke with Pastor Jeff Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 12:00 noon prior to the service.
